Supporting Japanese nuclear operators
Cyclife Japan can provide solutions to support Japanese operators in the following ways:
- answering the growing need to preserve disposal capacities by reducing the volume of waste and, where possible, recycling clearance materials for a responsible and sustainable nuclear industry,
- designing and optimising waste management lifecycle solutions, as well as optimising the running cost of their equipment by providing engineering and digital solutions to design waste treatment facilities and innovative processes on and off site,
- producing detailed dismantling scenarios and methodologies for their nuclear reactors and facilities, by engaging with customers at an early stage and adding value by implementing waste-led decommissioning approaches.
To achieve these goals, Cyclife Japan taps into the extensive experience and resources of the Cyclife Group and its waste processing facilities in France, Sweden and the UK.
27 reactors have been permanently shut down in Japan
There will be an increase in the demand for nuclear engineering and waste management services in Japan over the next few decades. It is therefore essential to have full control of the life cycle of nuclear facilities.
- 27 reactors have been permanently shut down.
- Japan plans to "replace its reactors" by constructing new units as soon as the operator has dismantled its shut-down assets.
- The target composition of the electricity mix by 2040 includes a 20% share for nuclear power (7th energy plan).
France and Japan are working together

The official launch of Cyclife Japan took place on 1st February 2024 in Tokyo, during the 28th N20[1] meeting of nuclear industry leaders from France and Japan. It was on this occasion that Estelle Desroches, CEO of the Cyclife Group, presented the company’s strategy of "waste-led decommissioning": a decommissioning based in efficient waste management and minimised environmental impact.
Reprocessing of retired large components and metallic waste
