Remote Cutting Facility, an Innovation from Cyclife

The Remote Cutting Facility (RCF) has been created in 2021 by Cyclife UK. It is an innovative solution for the treatment and the disposal for Sellafield's pond skips. It enables to reduce the operator dose since 98% of the handling is now being carried out remotely and minimising the potential for a contaminated wound incidents compared to hands-on cutting techniques.

The RCF eliminates multiple man-entries, unconstrained retrievals and ensure waste hierarchy best principles. It uses cold cutting technique that increases packing efficiencies, lower disposal volume and ultimately reducing disposal costs. It is compliant with ALARP process.
